Refrigerator Pickles
- 2 cups vinegar
- 1/2 cup canning salt
- 1/2 cup sugar
mix with a little water
slice pickles as desired
On the bottom of a 1-gallon jar:
- dill
- onion
- garlic
tightly pack a layer of pickles – repeat
top off with vinegar mixture
add water to fill
roll to mix twice a day
ready in 2-3 days

I’d like to tell you that it is because pilekcs, like tomatoes react with certain metals, but that’s not true. Plus it wouldn’t explain the plastic jar question. I believe and have found no proof otherwise that it is simply because Heinz began selling jarred pilekcs in glass jars instead of earthenware pots like was previously done, because his competitors were adding things to the ingredients that were not altogether what you’d want in your pilekcs. Heinz could prove his ingredients were natural if they were showcased in glass jars. Other companies followed suit.
